An interview with our very own Wedding Day Coordinator, Kelly Martin.
Kelly is the newest addition to the SHEA team, coming on board just over a year ago to assist our clients with their Day of Coordination packages and also lead some massive and beautiful event days on my behalf.
Since Kelly is a new face to most, I thought we’d ask her a few questions to get to know her more!

Tell us a bit about yourself?
I was born and raised in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and moved to Toronto to pursue Wedding + Event Planning in 2014.
I’ve always had a knack for organizing, planning and designing – It must have been all those design shows I watched growing up as a kid!
I have been told that I have a bubbly, fun-loving personality, and a calm demeanor. I am hard working, motivated, and love using my creativity to bring my clients’ visions to reality.
Why is Day-of Coordination so valuable?
Day-of Coordination offers our newly engaged couples the opportunity to have a stress-free coordinating process knowing that someone is there in the end to tie up all the details. I step in three months prior to the wedding date to ensure everything goes off without a hitch.
The goal is to put couples at ease – Before, during and after the wedding! I help take care of every possible detail, so that you can soak up every moment on your wedding day, and not have a single worry. Vendor issue? My responsibility! Questions about what to do about a missing rental? You’ll never know about it. It’s your job on the day to simply enjoy.
What is your favourite moment of a wedding day?
I have a couple! One of my favourite moments is when the bride and groom see each other for the first time. I love the anticipation and excitement the groom has while he waits to see his beautiful bride. Once he turns around, the moment is so magical and romantic!
Another one of my favourite moments is when the reception space is set-up to perfection, and ready to be shown to the couple for the room reveal. After months of planning between the vendors, the couple, and the planner, it is finally time to bring their dreams to life! Once they walk into their room, their reaction is always so humbling and rewarding!

Do you have a favourite venue and why?
There are so many beautiful venues throughout the city. If I had to choose – I’d say the Elora Mill. Although the building has been fully renovated recently, it is still rich in architectural history. I love the wooden beam ceilings, decorative mouldings, antique pieces, and ambient chandeliers that are showcased throughout the Mill. The Grand room is perfect for a stunning wedding reception, and is surrounded by windows that overlook the Grand River.
Not only does the Elora Mill have stunning event spaces, it also has convenient accommodations for your guests, a restaurant, spa, and an outdoor pool & jacuzzi overlooking the gorge.

What's your favourite colour palette and details right now?
Colour palettes always depend on the couple’s preferences, the venue and time of year. My personal favourite colour palettes often include white, gold, pinks, reds and a pop of a darker colour, such as navy.
I love crisp white charger plates, paired with a bold printed accent plate and gold cutlery. The bold patterned accent plate can be softened with a blush pink napkin, and goblet, then topped with a navy gauze runner and colourful florals to add a punch of colour.

Kelly has been an amazing addition to our team over the past year and a bit. She is so fun, dedicated, motivated, and eager to produce spectacular wedding days for her clients. Her feedback from clients is ALWAYS (like..100% of the time) positive and with rave reviews. Vendors love her organization and friendly demeanour making each event day a pleasure to be a part of. We just love her!
