Q. Where do we get our marriage licence?
A. Download your form here and bring it into a local City Hall for processing. You only need ONE partner to attend (both can, of course) but you will need 2 pieces of ID per person.
Q. How do we change our last name after being legally married?
A. You can "assume" a last name due to marriage once you have received your marriage cerficiate. Once you have the certificate, visit a Service Ontario centre with the following to change your last name:
1. Certificate of Marriage
2. Current Photo Health Card.
3. Driver's License
Q. Will we automatically be sent our marriage certificate after the ceremony?
A. NO! You must apply for the certificate online through Service Ontario. The certificate is typically available 6 weeks after your ceremony. The application can be accessed here:
Q. Who submits our marriage license after the ceremony?
A. I do! Once the ceremony is over, I will personally mail your license to the government burrow. You will be emailed an image of the tracking number and receipt so you know full well it made it into the right hands. Your record of solemnization will be given to you on the wedding day (or passed along to your planner or best man/maid of honour) which you can use as proof of your wedding ceremony. This can be used for things like honeymoon upgrades, etc. but is NOT your marriage certificate.
Q. Do you (as the officiant) stay for the reception?
A. No. As appreciated as any offer would be, I often have multiple ceremonies or other obligations that I must attend to.
Q. How may ceremony readings do we need?
A. As few or as many as you'd like. There is no set amount needed.
Q. How many songs do we need for our ceremony?
A. On average, most couples select 3-5 songs. These would be used for the processional (1-3 songs), signing (1 song), and recessional (1 song).
